In a day and age when women are making waves in all sectors professionally, one mother-of-two quit office in order to live like a housewife from the 1950s.
Alexia Delaros, 29, was a working professional for a company. But now, she lives the 1950s life and says her only role is to take care of her children.
Many tradwives are of the opinion that a woman does not lose rights by choosing to take a traditional gender role in marriage. Many of them choose to leave their careers to focus on their family.
According to Google Trends, online searches of the term “tradwife” began to rise in popularity around mid 2018.
Alexia says she chose the stay-at-home life because she felt neglected by her working mother as a child.
“My mom worked and she also enjoyed time outside of our family home with friends. I have always wanted a more traditional model for my family. I loved the idea of a 50’s style family life, where the wife stays home to look after her husband and kids, and the husband goes out to work full time,” Alexia said.
“I remember watching films where the women would stay home to cook and clean for their husbands, and I thought it was a romantic and sweet life. It really resonated with me,” she added.
Alexia now stays home to cook, clean, do all sorts of chores and primarily ensure her kids are happy and healthy while her husband goes out to work.
The 29-year-old leads an active lifestyle because of her household work, chores, and her vibrant social media profiles, where she documents her life for her followers.
She now believes that more women will turn to the tradwife lifestyle in the coming years.
Alexia’s posts have always received mixed reactions from social media users. But she takes it all in her stride.
“People like to comment to tell me that being a full-time mom and wife isn’t a real job. Some people even tell me that I am turning the clock back 50 years. ‘However, I don’t let it bother me because I know that the job I am doing is invaluable and it would be so expensive if we were to pay someone else to fulfil this role while I went out to work,” she said.
